There is an MLM truth that is never taught by companies who sell their products using the network marketing system. They never tell you what is is because they want to keep control over you. But you want freedom, don’t you?

Under the old school method the company tells you to market their product, not yourself. They give you the generic website that everyone else has, which never gets any hits because the search engines hate them. They are webspam.

The company gives you the same marketing material that everyone else has and then teaches you “it’s all about talking to people”. They have you harass friends and family and then go out and talk to complete strangers. Only a few days ago someone who is in the same opportunity as me, walked into the office where I work, uninvited, and started handing out business cards. No wonder this business gets a bad name.

The truth is if you follow the company line then your are a glorified salesperson not an entrepreneur. Think about it, you have no control over the product or the price and you are told precisely how to sell. Everyone is exactly the same just like they were in cubicle land. It may feel like freedom in the sense you are working from home and working the hours you want, but you have no possibility of differentiating yourself from any other distributor in your company.

Then what happens if the company goes out of business?Sure they will tell you this never happen but as we all know it does. You may build up your tidy residual income and then one day it just stops. Then what do you do?

Now for the “new school”

You biggest asset is not the opportunity or the product, it is YOU. People really don’t care about the opportunity , what they want is more money. Soon they realize that they need someone to show them how to get it and that’s where you come in.

What people are crying out for is leadership. There are so many scam artists out there with their get-rich-quick schemes. People want to turn to people they can trust so instead of promoting your opportunity, promote yourself and you do that through educational marketing.

It’s easy for people to join an opportunity but what is not easy is knowing how to generate a constant stream of leads and convert them into distributors. These people will come beating on your door if you can show them how to do that. That is educational marketing.

But first they have to find you.

You do that by marketing yourself on the internet. Here you have the world’s greatest ever marketing machine and most companies don’t want you to use it, because then they lose control.

You market yourself via social media, websites and blogs. Then you teach peole how to do the same. You can package this knowledge as an eBook or video boot camp and sell it as your “front end” product. These same people become your prospects, prospects that came to you, not ones you found in the shopping mall.

You only introduce your opportunity once they are learning from you. Your opportunity becomes your “back end” product.

That’s where it should be because it requires a bigger commitment in terms of time and money. The eBook is cheaper and can be read in an hour. That is what you should be promoting first.

So there it is, the MLM truth. Learn it, embrace it, and you will succeed where 95% fail.
